We use reinforcement learning to fully automate roster scheduling, i.e. planning employees' shifts, in healthcare. What currently takes days to weeks can be done in minutes. Roster quality: super-human. Hidden bias: none. Costs: less than the status quo. Why? The world is already facing a severe nursing shortage, and it's only getting worse. Employees can pick the employers they work for and tolerate bad rostering less and less.
